Miley Cyrus or Demi Lovato: The Next X Factor Judge?!?

With Britney Spears already on board, might Simon Cowell be giving up all notions of The X Factor as a singing competition?

It's hard not to think the producer is simply aiming to rake in the ratings, considering the latest name reportedly on the table to join season two as a judge: Miley Cyrus.

Miley Cyrus Paparazzi Pic

Simply put, “there have been talks with Miley,” an X Factor insider tells Celebuzz, a rumor backed up by E! News.

Both outlets also report that Fergie, Avril Lavigne and Demi Lovato are in the running to join Cowell, Spears and L.A. Reid on the panel. A decision will need to come within a month or so, in order for auditions to begin and The X Factor to premiere season two in September.

What do you think of Miley Cyrus as a judge? Would she be a good choice?

UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter now claims Lovato is the one to beat and is in "final negotiations" for the gig.

Dan Savage apologizes for criticizing students who walked out of lecture

By Isolde Raftery, msnbc.com

Dan Savage has apologized for lashing out at high school students who walked out of a lecture he gave in Seattle two weeks ago, during which he said that anti-gay passages in the Bible should be ignored.

?We can learn to ignore the bullsh-- in the Bible about gay people,? Savage said, ?the same way we have learned to ignore the bullsh-- about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstruation, about virginity, about masturbation. We ignore bullsh-- in the Bible about all sorts of things. The Bible is a radically pro-slavery document. Slave owners waved Bibles over their heads in the Civil War and justified it.?

While many cheered, dozens of students and advisers walked out of the auditorium at the National High School Journalism Convention?on April 13. Savage, co-founder of the anti-bullying It Gets Better Project, called their walk-out ?pansyass.?

Savage, the editorial director of the Stranger, an alternative news weekly in Seattle, took to the paper?s blog on Sunday to apologize. ?

?I wasn't calling the handful of students who left pansies (2,800+ students, most of them Christian, stayed and listened), just the walkout itself,? he said.

?I was not attacking the faith in which I was raised,? he added. ?I was attacking the argument that gay people must be discriminated against?and anti-bullying programs that address anti-gay bullying should be blocked (or exceptions should be made for bullying ?motivated by faith?)?because it says right there in the Bible that being gay is wrong.?

Organizers from the National Scholastic Press Association, which organized the convention, issued a statement criticizing Savage's lecture: "In his attempt to denounce bullying, Mr. Savage belittled the faith of others ? an action that we do not support. Ridicule of others? faith has no place in our programs, any more than ridicule of the LGBT community would."

Three UK offers an HTC One X update of its own, promises battery life improvements

One X

British network Three sends word via the Twitters that it's now pushing out the 1.28.771.9 firmware update for its branded versions of the HTC One X. This is the original OTA for the One X, which started going out to unbranded units a couple of weeks ago, not the newer 1.29 update that emerged last night. So Three-branded One X's are getting 1.28 just as it's been succeeded by a newer firmware version, which we're sure will irk some users. But to be fair to Three, a two-week turnaround on a firmware update is pretty fast for a European network -- in the past customers have had to wait a month or more, especially for minor updates like this.

Writing on its official Twitter account, Three says One X owners can look forward to "improvements [including] increased battery life" -- which matches what we've heard from One X owners running the unbranded version of 1.28.

If you've got a One X on Three, head to Settings > About > Software updates to grab today's OTA.

Controlling blood sugar in children and teenagers with diabetes type ...

Controlling blood sugar in children and teenagers with diabetes type two is best achieved with a metformin plus rosiglitazone combo, compared to just metformin or metformin plus lifestyle changes, researchers reported in NEJM (New England Journal of Medicine). Blood-sugar control is also known as glycemic control, or blood glucose control. There are very limited reliable data to guide treatment for young patients with diabetes type 2, even though rates in this age group have been rising over the last ten years...
