Would You Watch a David Hasselhoff-Led Gone with the Wind Remake?

While promoting his upcoming turn in the porn-y horror flick "Piranha 3DD," David Hasselhoff revealed that he has more classical aspirations: starring in a remake of "Gone With the Wind."

Apparently, the Hoff's manager is urging him toward more substantial roles, one of which includes a remake of the 1939 classic.

Yes, you heard right: David Hasselhoff wants to star in an updated version of "Gone With the Wind." With this unlikely casting choice for Rhett Butler, there's one logical follow-up question: Who will play Scarlett O'Hara?

"I think that actress, Rachel Rice ?" Hasselhoff told NextMovie.

"Do you mean [Oscar winner] Rachel Weisz, from 'The Constant Gardener?'" interviewer Breanne L. Heldman interjected.

"Oh, yeah. Oof! I think she's hot," he said.

The idea of the "Baywatch" star and "Rachel Rice" starring in a reboot one of the most respected films of the 20th century was a little too good to ignore, so NextMovie whipped up a revamped poster for the potential flick.

Take a look below! [Insert: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."]

Not Quite the Fairest

By Joe Bendel Created: June 1, 2012 Last Updated: June 1, 2012

These dwarves do not whistle while they work. They are not so hot when it comes to comic relief in general, but they are still devoted to a certain princess, as is most of their fairy tale realm. That is why she is such a threat to the despotic Queen Ravenna, her wicked stepmother.

Straying from familiar Disney territory, the latest live-action adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale takes on overtones of Joan of Arc as the protagonist rallies the troops in Rupert Sanders?s ?Snow White and the Huntsman,? which opens nationwide June 1.

King Magnus, Snow White?s widower father, chose the wrong second wife. He does not even make it to the honeymoon. The narcissistic Ravenna?s reign is harsh, even depressing the natural environment around her imposingly cinematic castle.

However, she gets a rather unwelcomed surprise from her magic mirror when Snow White comes of age. She is no longer the fairest of them all. The prisoner of the North Tower is. Thanks to the help of sundry beasts and birds, Snow White escapes her captivity, only to find herself in the supernaturally ominous Dark Forest.

Wanting Snow White?s purity for uncanny purposes, the queen sends in Eric, a drunkard huntsman who happens to be one of the few mortals to venture through the forest and live to tell the tale. Fortunately, the huntsman does not take direction well.

As a result, he will have to contend with her loyal ?Game of Thrones?-ish brother, his armored forces, and a fair number of monsters. A small band of short eccentrics might be able to help them. There is also some business with an apple.

\>");

This is ?Snow White,? done kind-of-sort-of faithfully. However, it spends far too much time aimlessly trudging about the Dark Forest. Frankly, the film really starts to take off when it diverges from Grimm, becoming an old-fashioned fight-for-freedom epic. Indeed, it is refreshing to see a less passive Snow White leading the resistance into battle like it?s St. Crispin?s Day.

In fact, Kristen Stewart rather exceeds expectations, balancing vulnerability and a suitably regal presence as Snow White. Chris ?Thor? Hemsworth might not be venturing too far out of his comfort zone here, but he swings the battle axe as well as the war hammer. Though played by great (full-size) actors like Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, Bob Hoskins, and Eddie Marsan, the dwarves just look weird. They are not funny, but they are still rather shticky.

However, it is Charlize Theron who really puts a stamp on the picture, vamping it up and chewing the scenery with sheer evil delight as Ravenna, while her apparent age yo-yos up and down (getting a crucial assist from the crack team of makeup artists).

Graduating from commercials to big special-effect-laden features, Sanders creates a richly detailed fantasy world, particularly the striking castle, in both interior and exterior shots.

However, one has to wonder just who is the intended audience for a dark, brooding version of ?Snow White,? served with a reasonable helping of hack-and-slash action. In fact, those looking for ?happily ever after? romance might find that the film leaves them cold, while the laughably clunky dialogue is not likely to do much for anyone.

?Snow White and the Huntsman? is an odd assortment of mismatched parts, but some of those pieces are admittedly entertaining. Ironically, it would not be a good date movie because those who are reluctantly dragged into it might find it more enjoyable than expected, whereas their dates will likely be disappointed by it. A mixed bag best saved for post-theatrical viewing options, it opens nationwide Friday (June 1).
Director: Rupert Sanders
Cast: Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane
Running Time: 127 minutes
Rating: PG-13

Kimora Lee Simmons Lists Not-So-Fabulous Guarded Estate ...

Friday, June 1, 2012, by Rob Bear

It might be located along a guard-gated street in posh Beverly Hills, but Kimora Lee Simmons' home is hardly the fabulous, over-the-top mansion we would have expected. Instead, the place is mostly devoid of furnishings and has a weird brick Tudor look going on. Out back by the pool, there's an eye-sore of a floodlight that looks like it was taken off the side of the highway, while inside, there's a sadly vacant, but truly massive, walk-in closet. Simmons has the six-bedroom, eight-bath place listed for $4.65M.

UN rights chief warns of full civil war in Syria

(AP) ? The U.N.'s top human rights official warned Friday that all-out civil war could engulf Syria unless countries back international envoy Kofi Annan's peace plan and calls for an independent probe into the killing of more than 100 civilians last week in the Arab country.

As countries lined up at an emergency meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Council to express their horror about the Houla massacre, in which the global body said 49 children were among the dead, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights appealed for support for the six-point plan to halt the violence in Syria.

"Otherwise, the situation in Syria might descend into a full-fledged conflict and the future of the country, as well as the region as a whole could be in grave danger," Navi Pillay told the 47-nation council in a speech read out on her behalf.

It was the fourth time that the Geneva-based council called an urgent meeting on Syria, something the country's ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, Fayssal al-Hamwi, said was a sign that some countries are trying to divide his country.

Al-Hamwi, too, condemned the massacre in Houla but blamed it on "groups of armed terrorists" seeking to ignite sectarian strife.

U.S. Ambassador Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe said there was no doubt that the regime of President Bashar Assad was responsible for the killing.

"There needs to be justice and accountability for those that committed these atrocities," she told the council.

A draft resolution proposed by Qatar, Turkey and the United States condemns the killings in Houla and states that "those responsible for serious violations of human rights must be held accountable," but doesn't suggest how.

European diplomats want the resolution to include a call for the U.N. Security Council in New York to consider referring the massacre to the International Criminal Court. This is something the rights council cannot do on its own.

And since Syria isn't a member of the ICC, under international law only the Security Council can refer it to the Hague-based tribunal.

"Mostly we are pressing for some stronger language on accountability," said Maria Ulff Moeller, a Danish diplomat whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union. "We can encourage the Security Council to refer the situation to the ICC, and it's something we are pushing for."

Human rights groups backed the EU position. "At this stage what we need is a strong resolution requesting ICC referral," said Juliette de Rivero, a spokeswoman for the group Human Rights Watch.

But other nations who favor sharp language critical of Syria are questioning whether the rights body should invoke the war crimes tribunal.

"Obviously we want to hold the violators accountable," said David Kennedy, a spokesman for the U.S. mission in Geneva. "Ultimately, though, it's not the role of the Human Rights Council to make recommendations to the Security Council."

The draft resolution also calls on Syria to allow the rights council's panel of experts to visit the country, something it has previously rejected.

The head of the panel, Brazilian professor Paulo Sergio Pinheiro told Brazil's O Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper on Thursday that "Houla is a warning of how a civil war would be."

He plans to present a report on the killings at a regular meeting of the council on June 27.

"The Syrians think that by impeding our access we won't be able to make it, but we have proven that we can do it," he was quoted as saying.

Envoy: 'Very clear' signs of Iran sanitizing military site

DigitalGlobe - ISIS

This satellite image from Friday shows earth displacement activity at the suspected high explosive testing site in Parchin, Iran. The U.N.'s nuclear watchdog has repeatedly asked Iran for access to the site as part of a long-stalled probe into suspicions that Tehran may be seeking the ability to assemble nuclear bombs.

By msnbc.com and news services

VIENNA -- U.N. nuclear inspectors displayed new satellite imagery on Wednesday indicating that some small buildings had been dismantled and other possible clean-up work undertaken at an Iranian military site they want to visit.

One image from May 25 showed signs that "ground-scraping activities" had taken place at the Parchin facility, as well as the presence of a bulldozer, according to diplomats who attended a closed-door briefing by U.N. nuclear agency officials.

This will likely further strengthen Western suspicions that Iran is "sanitizing" the site of any incriminating evidence before allowing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) into the complex. "It is very clear," one Western envoy said.

Diplomatic talks aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear ambitions have ended with no major breakthrough. NBC's Ali Arouzi reports.

Iran's IAEA envoy, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, dismissed such accusations by Western officials, telling reporters after the briefing that "this kind of noise and allegations are baseless".

Israel's Barak to NBC: Nuclear Iran unacceptable

The images?released by the Institute for Science and International Security's (ISIS) could hurt a tentative deal between?the U.N.'s atomic watchdog aimed at giving inspectors wide access to scientists, documents and facilities?allegedly related to nuclear-weapons work, The Wall Street Journal reported.?

Wednesday's disclosure followed inconclusive talks between Iran and six world powers in Baghdad last week to address concerns about the nature of its nuclear activities, which Iran says are aimed at generating electricity.

The images were?posted on ISIS's website hours after diplomats said the International Atomic Energy Agency?showed what appeared to be similar imagery at a closed-door briefing in Vienna.?

Israel's defense minister Ehud Barak said his country will do "whatever it takes" to prevent Iran from becoming a military power with a nuclear weapon. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

The agency has been pressing Iran to allow inspectors to visit the Parchin military facility, which the IAEA thinks could have been involved in testing of high explosives, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Western envoys who attended Wednesday's briefing earlier told Reuters that two small side buildings at Parchin had been removed, and ISIS said its pictures from May 25 showed that they "have been completely razed." ?

ISIS, which tracks Iran's nuclear program closely, said there were visible tracks in the images "made by heavy machinery used in the demolition process," adding that the two buildings had been intact in early April.?

The U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly asked Iran for access to Parchin as part of a long-stalled probe into suspicions that Tehran may be seeking the ability to assemble nuclear bombs, should it decide to do so.?

Sanctions have taken a toll on the Iranian economy. The government is reluctant to admit it. Inflation is high. The number of young unemployed is a growing concern. NBC's Ali Arouzi reports.?

The Islamic state has so far refused to let inspectors visit the facility -- which it describes as a conventional military complex -- saying there must first be a broader framework agreement on how to address the IAEA's questions.?

Report: Iran using passenger jets to smuggle weapons to Syria, Lebanon

United Nations weapons inspectors have reportedly discovered traces of radio activity inside a nuclear bunker in Iran. Former U.S. ambassador Mark Ginsberg joins MSNBC to talk about the situation.

The Parchin complex is at the center of Western allegations that Iran has been conducting research and experiments that could serve a nuclear weapons development programme. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly denied any such ambition.?

Iran state TV: We'll build second nuclear plant

Last week, the IAEA said in a report issued to member states that satellite images showed "extensive activities" at the facility southeast of Tehran.?

Western diplomats said this was an allusion to suspected cleaning at Parchin. They have earlier cited other images showing recent activity at the site, including a stream of water, as suggesting Iran is trying to remove evidence.?

Iran says it will take part in another round of nuclear negotiations in June after meetings in Baghdad with six world powers ended on Thursday. NBC's Ali Arouzi reports.

?

Iran, big powers agree to another round of nuclear talks

An IAEA report last November said Iran had built a large containment vessel in 2000 at Parchin in which to conduct tests that the U.N. agency said were "strong indicators of possible (nuclear) weapon development."?

It said a building was constructed around a large cylindrical object, a vessel designed to contain the detonation of up to 70 kg of high explosives. Diplomatic sources say the suspected tests likely took place about a decade ago.?

Last week, a senior Iranian official was quoted as saying the IAEA had not yet given good enough reasons to visit Parchin.?

Reuters contributed to this report.
