Gunman leaves trail of dead in Calif. shooting spree

Three people were killed and another wounded by a California gunman who went an on early morning spree of shooting and carjackings before he killed himself when confronted by police.

Police in Tustin, Calif., have yet to identify the shooter as they work several crime scenes where the gunman stole cars and shot at people using two rifles.

Police received a call about an initial carjacking and shots fired by a suspect carrying "two long guns" at 5:30 am PT, Tustin police said in a statement.

"During this carjacking a bystander was struck by gunfire from the suspect," police spokesman Paul Garaven said in the statement.

The gunman is believed to have soon after stolen another car, killing the driver in that carjacking, police said.

When police received a third call from a carjacking several miles away, they found two victims, one who had died from his wounds and another in critical condition.

"Officers located the suspect in the stolen vehicle and followed him to the city of Orange. When a stop was initiated, the suspect shot and killed himself," cops said.
